The starkly modern Marker hotel in the docklands area is bringing a much different hotel experience to Dublin. Also known as “Silicon Docks” the area around the Grand Canal is filled with old warehouses and mills that are slowly being repurposed and the neighborhood is home to the European headquarters of hi-tech companies like Facebook and Google.

The Marker took six years to complete.
The Marker took six years to complete.

The six story geometric designed structure took six years to complete, a victim of Ireland’s economic downtown, but it finally opened in April of 2013 and it has become, not only an urban oasis for vacationers, but a gathering spot for locals who meet to discuss business in the fashionable lobby or to sip cocktails at the rooftop bar that offers 360 degree views of the Liffey river and the sea.

Guest rooms at The Marker feature floor to ceiling windows, cream upholstered headboard beds, heather grey and chartreuse quilts and purple carpets. Bathrooms are large and luxurious with Italian marble floors, rainforest showers and toiletries by Malin + Goeth. The hotel also has a spa with an indoor pool, Johnny Loco cruiser bikes, and an Irish Brasserie.

Executive Chef Gareth Mullins has brought the cronut to Dublin and makes unique flavors of the croissant-donut hybrid each morning. The Marker is located steps from the diamond shaped Bord Gais Energy Theater and is about a mile from Grafton Street.
